FieldNotes is built for personal field-ministry note-taking. Most of what you do in the app — presentations, return visits, and private territories — never leaves your device. This page explains exactly what does, and when.

Private use

Your presentations, return visits, and private territories are stored privately on your device. No account is needed to use them. These records are not automatically uploaded, synchronized, or backed up to a FieldNotes server.

Shared territories

An account is only needed to share or join a shared territory. Sharing uploads the selected territory’s boundary, house records, and collaboration data. It does not upload presentations, return visits, or your other private territories. Your account email and name are used to support sign-in and territory membership.

Manual backups and map services

Backup & Restore lets you create a password-protected backup file that you choose where to save. There is no automatic cloud backup. Map searches and Directions send the location needed to find or display an area to the map provider; your personal notes and return visit content are never included in those requests.

Account data

If you create an account, your name, email, and authentication data are handled by Firebase Authentication. Shared territory data (boundaries, house statuses, membership) is stored in a Firebase database, protected so that only that territory’s members can access it.

Your choices

You can use FieldNotes fully without an account. Signing out clears your account session on this device but keeps your private, on-device records. Deleting a shared territory or removing yourself as a member does not affect your private data.
